Master the Craft of Classical Teaching.

The Templeton Honors College's Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) offers a distinctively classical approach to preparing teachers to foster the holistic and integrated formation of their students. It aims to help teachers cultivate the classical knowledge, pedagogical prudence, and practical skills they need to teach well, foster a faculty of friends at the heart of their school, and nurture a formative classroom and school culture.

Through small on-ground seminars, online self-paced courses, and online asynchronous courses, students in the MAT will contemplate foundational questions about classical liberal arts education historically, philosophically, theologically, and practically.  This approach enables teachers to explore timeless questions and develop the practical arts of teaching in dialogue with the great teachers, great books, and great ideas of the liberal arts tradition. We believe that teachers need to be the kinds of people they want their students to become, and that the MAT and its community of teachers and scholars can help you achieve that.

“After sharing what I learned with my coworkers and students, we have all seemed to come alive in a new way. Now, there is a deeper understanding and love for classical learning in my school.”

Danielle Dillenschneider, Bayshore Christian School - Fairhope, AL

The MAT requires 30 credit hours, which can be completed in as little as 16 months. Students can now take up to four courses (as "continuing education") without enrolling in the full program.
