Application for MAT in Classical Education (taking five or more classes total)

  1. Complete Eastern University’s online graduate application. Specify “MA in Teaching, Concentration in Classical Education” as the Academic Program.
  2. Request two letters of reference (we recommend one professional and one academic) that speak to your personal character; intellectual capacities and curiosity; ability to flourish in a graduate program emphasizing reading, writing, and discussion; aptitude for interactive conversation; and potential for success as an educator. Have the letters sent to mat.templeton@eastern.edu.
  3. Write your Intellectual Autobiography and Statement of Purpose and email as Word documents or PDFs to mat.templeton@eastern.edu:

Intellectual Autobiography: Discuss the history of changes and developments that have been significant to your educational and intellectual experience, and state your academic and professional goals (500 words or less).

Statement of Purpose: Explain why you are pursuing the Master of Arts in Teaching in Classical Education at Eastern University (300 words or less).

  1. Request transcripts from the college or university from which you received your bachelor's degree. Official transcripts can be emailed to mat.templeton@eastern.edu or sent to:

Non-Degree Student Application: (If you plan to take fewer than four classes)

  1. Complete Eastern University’s online graduate application. Specify “Non-Degree Graduate” as the Academic Program drop down menu.
  2. Request official transcript from the college or university from which you have completed your bachelor's degree. Official transcripts can be emailed to: mat.templeton@eastern.edu or mailed to:

  3. NOTE: Financial aid is not available for non-degree students
