2025 Ingles Award Winner

The Ingles Award is an annual award given in memory of Dr. James Wesley Ingles, former Professor and Chairman of the English Department at Eastern Baptist College. Graduating THC seniors and faculty vote for the student who most embodies the values of the College: truth and learning, wisdom and virtue, stewardship and service. The award includes a gift of $500.

This year’s Ingles Award recipient is Shane Witzer: math major, tennis player and friend to all.

Andrew Destefano, a fellow graduate and classmate of Shane’s, said, “Shane is really an outstanding guy, he’s a great conversationalist. Shane is a core member of not just our cohort, but the whole Honors College. He is exceptional at bringing people together!”

Shane exemplifies the values of THC in his academic, extracurricular and personal spheres. His insights and questions add greatly to class discussions. He is often spoken of as being a kind, well-rounded and fun person to be with.

Shane reflected on his time with Templeton, saying, “Templeton has been, for me, an intellectual and spiritual home–a refuge I didn't know I needed in order to grow and learn. I am thankful to have had the privilege of asking questions, seeking answers, and learning to live life well alongside friends. The community of learners and lovers here is something rare and deeply special. I'm grateful to have been formed by this place and the people who make it special.”

We heartily congratulate Shane on completing this chapter. His time at Eastern shows us all what a well-lived good life looks like, what it is to be a true friend and member of a Christ-centered community. From everyone in THC, congratulations Shane! We pray for health and happiness in the coming months.
