Honors Forum: Flourishing as Daughters of God

Join us at Honors Forum this week as we hear from Dr. Joy Clarkson. Dr. Clarkson will ask what it means to be and flourish as a Christian woman, a question she explores deeply in her new book Daughters of God.

At the core of the book is the idea that being a Christian is not one identity amongst
many— like mother, wife, sister, teacher— but a calling which reorients, reinvents,
and sometimes destroys the other identities we inhabit. The question then is not
what is a Christian woman, but what is a Christian? What is it to be a child or
daughter of God?

Joy Marie Clarkson is a research associate of theology and literature at King’s
College London and the books and culture editor at Plough Quarterly. She has
written two books Aggressively Happy: a realist’s guide to believing in the goodness
of life and You are a Tree: and other metaphors to nourish life, thought, and prayer.
From 2017-2024 she ran the podcast Speaking with Joy and now hosts Another Life,
a podcast of Plough Quarterly. She completed her PhD in theology at the University
of St Andrews. She now lives in East London and has aspirations to be an urban
gardener.
